Lorenzo Garagnani is Consultant Hand & Wrist Surgeon, co-founder and first Lead Surgeon of the OrthoPlastic Hand Unit of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London (UK), where he practises at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. He has a broad paediatric and adult hand and wrist surgery practice, both public and private, and a special interest in the assessment and development of safer, minimally invasive, low-morbidity procedures and techniques in hand and upper limb surgical and non-surgical treatments. Lorenzo co-founded and established jointly with the Clinical Geneticist Dr Muriel Holder the first multidisciplinary Genetics-Hand & Upper Limb clinic in London for patients with complex congenital hand and upper limb differences and other genetic disorders and syndromes affecting the hand and upper limb. He has a keen interest in medical education, regularly trains international Hand Fellows and Orthopaedic and Plastic surgery trainees and is Guy’s and St Thomas’ Lead for Undergraduate Medical Education in Orthopaedics. Lorenzo is Honorary Reader (Associate Professor) at King’s College London Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, Director of the International Bone Research Association (IBRA)’s GSTT London Upper Limb Training Centre & Fellowship, tutor for the British Diploma in Hand Surgery and examiner for the European Diploma in Hand Surgery of the European Board of Hand Surgery (EBHS) / Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH). He is the President of the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain (IMSoGB). Lorenzo is regular speaker and faculty at international meetings and courses, and has served as volunteer paediatric hand and wrist surgeon with a charity providing paediatric surgery, surgical training and teaching in Myanmar. In 2022, he was awarded the Knighthood of the Order of the Star of Italy (OSI) in recognition of his international hand surgery career and for volunteering and coordinating a task-force of volunteers throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Gil is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Universidad de Sevilla and at Universidad Internacional de Andalucia. He coordinates the educational program for residents of the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocio in Seville where he is the Head of the Unit of Upper Extremity and Peripheral Nerve Surgery which is accredited by Spanish National Health System as Unit of Reference for treating brachial plexus palsy. Dr. Gil treats any upper limb surgical pathology not only in children but also in adults giving global attention to the paediatric patients' future needs. His areas of special interest are reconstructive microsurgery, arthroscopy and surgery of neurological sequelae, especially tendon transfers having developed in this field innovative techniques for the treatment of winged scapula.

Dr. Pino is a hand surgeon and microsurgeon in Santiago, Chile, where she works at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She did her pediatric hand surgery fellowship with Dr. Zlotolow and Kozin at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. She also works at Instituto Teletón and Hospital de la Florida, where she takes care of both adult and pediatric patients with upper extremity conditions. Her special interest are brachial plexus injuries, peripheral nerve surgery, congenital conditions, spinal cord injuries among others.

Dr. Cornwall is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Developmental Biology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He has been a full-time pediatric hand and upper limb surgeon since 2004, with special interests in brachial plexus birth injury, pediatric hand trauma, and patient-reported outcomes research. He founded and directs the Pediatric Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s. He also runs a basic science laboratory investigating the regulation of postnatal muscle growth and the molecular basis of neuromuscular contracture development. When not at work, he loves spending time with his wife and five sons, plays a variety of musical instruments, listens to heavy metal, climbs mountains, and has been known to run very long distances in the woods.

Soumen is a Consultant in the Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery at the National University Health System (NUHS) in Singapore. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013 and undertook a 1-year clinical fellowship in Hand Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He returned to complete a second residency in Hand Surgery at NUHS and became a full-time member of the Department in 2016. His clinical interests are in soft tissue reconstruction of the upper and lower limbs as well as paediatric hand conditions. Soumen also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University, and he is interested in evidence-based surgical practice, improving research methodology as well as understanding disability in work-related injuries.

Andrea S. Bauer, MD, is a pediatric hand surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bauer earned her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons before completing a five-year residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program in orthopaedic surgery. She completed a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as a fellowship in Pediatric Hand Surgery at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California. Dr. Bauer spent 4 years on staff as a Pediatric Hand Surgeon at Shriners Hospital and UC Davis before coming to Boston Children’s in 2015. Dr. Bauer focuses on the care of children with congenital hand differences, brachial plexus and other nerve injuries, and upper limb injuries due to trauma and sports. She enjoys teaching residents and fellows and is a mentor to medical students interested in becoming orthopaedic surgeons. Her research interests include brachial plexus birth injury and congenital hand differences. Dr. Bauer is active in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, where she was elected a Young Leader in 2015, as well as the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, for which she chairs the Upper Extremity committee of the Quality, Safety, and Value council. She is a member of the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Hand Surgery and Techniques in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. Dr. Bauer has authored more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/1Nu87xfVwBCQW/bibliography/public/) as well as numerous book chapters. She has presented at national and international conferences, including the annual meetings of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. Dr. Bauer is board certified in orthopaedics by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a subspecialty qualification in surgery of the hand.

Takehiko Takagi is a Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at the National Center for Child Health and Development, Tokyo, Japan, and a director of the international pediatric orthopaedic fellowship. He specializes in congenital differences, birth palsies, and pediatric upper limb traumas. He also encounters and treats patients with congenital transverse failure, and in collaboration with engineering and rehabilitation specialists, he contributes to the development of the myoelectric hand. He was an international fellow at the Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center in Louisville, KY, USA, and he had the opportunity to communicate with attendings and fellows from all over the world, who had diverse values and thoughts and provided him with enlightening insights regarding hand surgery. He also participated in the mission trip that Touching Hands, presented by American Society for Surgery of the Hand, conducted in Honduras. He continues to broaden his knowledge and skillset by attending various meetings and by interacting with other communities. He enjoys running in his spare time and sometimes takes part in competitions.
